Job Description:
· Troubleshoot, support, and maintain elements and connections required to operate the network, electronics, and associated systems.
· In addition to maintaining our fiber plant, tech will assist with the HFC operations going forward in the Cherokee, NC, system. You must understand the cable operation, Data Over Cable Service Interface Specs, or DOCSIS.
· Provide preventative maintenance and repair of the system.
· Monitor signal levels, infrastructure, and HFC elements for alarms and performance metrics. Learn about PON and FTTx transmission systems.
· Assist with the operations to be consistent with PSC/Utility Commission requirements, SCTE standards, and general industry best practices.
· Complete system sweeps, balances, and upgrades to ensure system performance and operation. Monitor and repair signal leakage.
· Read and accurately interpret system/network design maps.
· Installation and replacement of the physical plant network components according to technical specifications.
· Installation and splicing of rigid and semi-coaxial cable and pole line construction in overhead construction.
· Physically able to climb poles and carry a 90-lb ladder. Work at heights up to 36 feet.
· National Electric Code/National Electrical Safety Code knowledge.
· Maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
· Participate in On-Call duty and perform standby status when scheduled.
· Work evenings/nights/weekends, including overnight maintenance as needed.
· Maintain pole climbing certification and safety training.
· Use a bucket truck after completion of bucket truck training.
Professional Skills:
· Must maintain a clean driving record and a clean vehicle, inside and out. Loss of a driver’s license or a compromised driving record is cause for termination due to the inability to perform your job.
· Share on-call rotation, which is currently every other week. This schedule is subject to change at times.
· Proficient with Windows and browser software.
· Comfortable with climbing ladders, under buildings, and into small spaces.
· Excellent communication skills are necessary for interaction with the customer and other team members.
· Effective at troubleshooting and problem-solving.
· Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb towers, poles, and a 40 ft ladder.
· Learn and observe pertinent FCC / FAA / EPA / OSHA regulations.
· Basic understanding of IP, Ethernet, Routing & Switching
